I would like to know to what extent is the teacher's understanding of the concepts and theories of grammar helpful to the teaching of grammar in schools ?

eg The ability to explain things clearly.
eg The ability to understand the needs and difficulties of the students.

I would say to the same extent that understanding the concepts and theories of mathematics is helpful to teaching mathematics in schools, i.e., indispensable!
