i always confused with the usage of proposition. eg: influenced by/with

These are prepositions, not propositions, and there is no rule for many meanings that are not simply physical ('sit down', etc.). Your best bet is to check a good grammar book or phrasal verb/idiom book, which should have a list of most of the commoner combinations.
