English Gerunds

Hello. I am learning English Syntax, particularly gerundive constructions. I am now facing some problems, and I would like to know whether the following two sentences are grammatical or not. Thank you for your help.

·John didn't remember whether buying the novel.

·John didn't remember how getting there.
