Letter Writing

English, formal letter

Hello,

Could someone check my letter if there are any errors, grammatical or stylistic mistakes? I would really appreciate it and thank you in advance for your help and time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is XY, I am Polish student and I was a successful applicant for the position of assistant systems engineer. However with great regret I am no longer available on the start date we agreed.

My father lives on his own and has recently had an accident. The unfortunate incident rendered him immobile and for this reason I must return and arrange home care. He is determined that I should further my career abroad but it is obvious to me that I cannot leave him alone in this difficult situation.

Undoubtedly, it would be only natural for you to assure that this might recur. Furthermore you were very insistent that I should start in the 1st of March. Nevertheless, I reassure you that I am really keen to be a part of your company. I will do my best not to disappoint you again.

Thus I must ask for postponing the start date by fortnight. If you agree I could spend a few days with present engineer unpaid before I leave. That way I would become familiar and adjust with work environment. If you have no objection to my suggestion I would really appreciate it.

I hope you will understand my awkward predicament and will accept my solution. Should you to wish to discuss this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully,

XY
