English essay thesis

hi, i am currently in grade 12 academic english, and i would just like input or suggestions on how to improve on my thesis for a majoy essay we have to do. My essay happens to compare the book, No Great Mischief, by Alistar MacLeod and the song, "Mockingbird", by Eminem. Both works have a strong theme of family and loyalty. The following is the thesis that I'm working on:

In the novel, No Great Mischief by Alistair MacLeod, and the song, "Mockingbird" by Eminem, authors of both works demonstrate that a person's journey through life's pivotal moments is defined by the support that one can only obtain through their family.

Brutally honest input is welcomed, please let me knkow how I can improve on this thesis.
thank you so much!

I think your idea and presentation are fine; you just need to correct the sentences a bit: The novel No Great Mischief , by Alistair MacLeod, and the song "Mockingbird" , by Eminem, both demonstrate that a person's journey through life's pivotal moments is defined by the support that he can obtain only through his family. I don't particularly like to use the masculine singular pronoun, but for formal essay writing, there is no other good choice. '
