English doubt

Sir,i have a doubt in regarding the usage of since in the following sentence.

My father has been dead since last Sunday.."has been dead" is a present perfect tense and since is used as a preposition which signifies from..and my doubt is how can any person be dead from last sunday, as death occurs only once.

I really appreciate any help you can provide in this.

Hi;; "dead" is a state, not an event. You can use it just like any other state. He has been busy since last week.

The sentence describes his state of being dead (hence the linking verb been), not the occurrence of his death. You're probably thinking of *My father has died since last Sunday, which is illogical, of course.
