Hi, please help. Thank you for your help in advance.

1. What is the difference? I am not sure sentence b makes sense or not, but I am focusing on the proper use of the article.

a) He has a/the attitude of doing his best in everything he does.
b) The word "quiet" expresses an/the attitude of composure.

2. Could they be without the definite articles in the places indicated?

a) Soon they realized they were lies, far from the truth.
b) He thinks I should associate with those who speak the truth.

There is no difference in meaning. The first is not very natural with either article.
