English

Hi, I am an English learner and I am confused cos I can't distinguish when we have "a" in shortage/lack of sth and when we don't have an "a". For instance:

The meeting hasn’t started because of shortage of chairs

There is a shortage of food in some areas.

"Cos" is not a word. OK, it is a word, but it isn't that word. The standard spelling is "'cause" (note the apostrophe), but even that is not called for outside of dialogue.

  • Write "because".
