The charts give information about the number of honey-bee colonies and the amount of honey production in the United States between 1970 and 2010.
Overall, a number of honey-bee colonies and the total amount of honey production were fallen over a 40-year period. However, these were the exception in 1980 which colonies slightly grew up while honey production sharply dropped.
In 1970, there were 4 million honey-bee colonies and after the next ten years, this increased to approximately 4.2 million in 1980. However, over the next years, this number increased by more than a million every ten years. Finally, in 2010, the number of colonies reached just under 2 million.
During the same period, the amount of honey production was 130.000 tonnes in 1970 and dropped to 70.000 tonnes in 2010. But between 1980 and 1990, the amount of production of honey was increased by 10.000 tonnes (from 110.000 tonnes went up to 120.000 tonnes production).
