have gone / had gone
have eaten / had eaten
have danced / had danced

I have had three dogs in my life. They were named Bonner, Skipper and Zorro. (present perfect, showing an action that began in the past, and still has interest in the present)

I had had two dogs, Bonner and Skipper, before adopting Zorro, so I was an experienced dog owner. (past perfect, an event which occurs prior to anther event in the past.)
