Note that alliteration can be more subtle than shown in the link above, as when not every word starts with the same sound, but only a few, usually in the stressed syllables. Here are examples from just a very short section of Longfellow's Evangeline.

welcomed the sea to wander at will o'er the meadows
mists from the mighty Atlantic
Matrons and maidens sat in snow-white caps and in kirtles
Mingled their sound with the whir of the wheels
Solemnly down the street came the parish priest, and the children / Paused in their play
and serenely the sun sank / Down
Columns of pale blue smoke ... / Rose from a hundred hearths, the homes of peace and contentment
Alike were they free from / Fear

Occasionally the stressed syllables that form an alliterative group are not the first syllables of words.

Spreading afar and unfenced o'er the plain
______________

Some writers feel that alliteration is so closely associated with poetry that its presence is distracting in prose, and they avoid it there.
