'Hope' is for something that has a reasonable chance of happening, and it takes indicative verbs: I hope you can come to my party; I hope it rains tomorrow. 'Wish' is for something that has little or no chance of happening, and it takes subjunctive verbs: I wish you could come to my party (but you cannot); I wish it would rain tomorrow (but it probably won't).
