If such an accident happens, we want to feel assured that all precautions were taken to avoid it, and that its effects were minimized through proper procedures to handle the situation.

Hi Anon, When accidents like this happen, we want to know it was despite measures in place to try to avoid it and that its effects were mitigated because the right procedures were in place to handle it. ) Also: "English" isn't a very helpful thread title. "Help with rewriting a wordy sentence" is, though.

Hi Anon,

When accidents like this happen, we want to know it was despite measures in place to try to avoid it and that its effects were mitigated because the right procedures were in place to handle it.

(I'm not sure I agree with the first part -- it just sounds like the people in charge don't have a good handle on things.)
