English

I need to know whether this allusion makes sense at all, my teacher marked me down for it because it was "random and irrelevant":

I have often found myself at the bottom of the hole with nothing but a plastic teaspoon to dig myself out with, and by some miracle of God, I uncovered the city of Atlantis on my way out.

Or if there is some way to improve it so that it DOES make sense, i would appreciate it.

Please and Thank You :]

Well, Atlantis is supposed to be covered with water. It's hard to imagine discovering Atlantis in a hole in the ground.
