How can I rephrase this sentence? .....demonstrates an eagerness to learn and assumes responsiblity for any obstacle that arises. Don't like the underlined part.

That's good that you don't like it - because you've accidentally said that he is responsible for the obstacles.

Maybe something more like "...readily assumes responsibility for overcoming any obstacles ..."?
