Excitation is a matter of emotional freedom and has nothing to do with social participation. People with energetic drive end a liking for people are not necessarily excitatory. The criteria of excitation are honesty of response and the content thereof . The individual can withdraw while being active. At Work, and at leisure, lawyers and engineers are factually Noisy, but emotionally inarticulate. Lawyers in their probing for substance find only form, and engineers in their preoccupation with matter lose the essence. (By Salter)
Hello,
I learnt "ambulance chaser" which is a derogatory phrase to refer to a lawyer, so maybe in English-speaking culture, some people don't like lawyers; but I don't understand why it seems the author negatively commented on engineers.
Did/do engineers have a negative image in some people of native spearkers (of Americans), or it is just the author's individual view?
What does "precupation with matter and lose essence" refer to?
Thanks!
iclearwater I don't understand why it seems the author negatively commented on engineers. I don't believe that the author is commenting negatively on either engineers or lawyers—s/he is merely noting the nature of the profession and the mindset required. iclearwater What does "precupation with matter and lose essence" refer to?
