Engaged

Is this sentence correct:

"She has ENGAGED lawyers to take action against inaccurate defamatory reports and allegations."

Top answer

This is understandable but the usage is not good. "Engaged" is awkward to use with respect to lawyers as it is so strongly associated with marriage. "Defamatory" already carries with it the sense of "inaccurate," so the phrase "inaccurate defamatory" is redundant.
