Vocabulary

engage with the idea

How should this phrase be understood? I know that if someone tries to engage with someone, he/she tries to interact with him/her. But I couldn't fit this meaning anywhere when it comes to "idea". Here are some examples if you would ask for the context.

"Time to engage with the idea that we are better off in the EU"
"To help the children to engage with the idea, we talked about the various things Christians do inside and outside of church "

Thanks in advance to whoever wIll take their time to reply.
