Ending and Ended

Hi,

I sometimes meet the phrases " the period ending 31 January 2009" and "the period ended 31 January 2008".

Please tell me the difference between the use of ending and that of ended.

Best regards,

Stephen

Hi Stephen The phrase "the period ending 31 January 2009" is more useful because it can be used both before and after 31 January 2009. e. it's in the past).

Hi Stephen

The phrase "the period ending 31 January 2009" is more useful because it can be used both before and after 31 January 2009.

If you use "ended" rather than "ending", then the reference would be to a period that is already finished (i.e. it's in the past).
