end 30th September vs end on 30th September'

Hello, everyone. Again it is a nice day.^^

While I was preparing for a test, I got a difficult question for me, which asked me to choose a sentence including wrong parts.

(a)The Government Statistical Office today issued it's latest quarterly industrial figures. (b) Evidently, bankruptcies among medium-sized manufacturing companies are on the rise. (c)Three hundred companies in this sector declared bankruptcy for quarter ending 30th September. (d) A combination of steep interest rates and an appreciating currency resulting in severe cash flow problems is claimed to be the cause.

Because I couldn't have known which, I've already looked up the answer key and it pointed at (c). But, I'm not still finding out which parts in (C) are wrong. My feeble assumpution is like the below.

1. 'for quarter' should be 'for the quarter'. ( English articles are always mysterious area for me.)
2. 'ending 30th September.' should be 'ending on 30th September'.(When I googled this phrase, both patterns popped up. I can not know which is right.)

Many thanks in advance!
