Encounters / rides up

Hi teachers,

Excerpts:

In Britain, ghost hunting has gone from quirky pastime to serious business.

The 115-year-old National Trust has commissioned the cultural historian Sian Evans to investigate ghostly encounters in its 350 properties. Their encounters with ghosts are fascinating.

The trust's events range from fireside ghost stories at William Wordsworth's house in Cumbria to evenings at Anne Bolyn's family home in Norfolk, where Henery VIII's second wife allegedly rides up holding her own decapitated head.

1. Does "serious business" mean "establishing a serious enterprise business"?

2. Does "encounters" mean "meeting with"?

3. Does "events" refer to "fireside ghost stories at....to evenings at Anne Bolyn's family"/

4. Does "rides up" mean "riding on a horse" or "hovers in the air"?

Thank you.

1. It is not very obvious if "serious business" is referring to opportunties for commercial activities or if it just means "important matter". Maybe a bit of both.

I think so.

Not like sitting down for a business meeting, but perhaps like coming face to face with a lion on the trail. (Close encounters of the worst kind!)
