Emphasising past simple sentences

When we want put an emphasis on a past action can we use (did)+(infinitive verb) instead of past simple form of a verb

For example

He played chess

He did play chess

Is the second sentence has more emphasis tone...?

She did meet him at the party. (Do emphasises the meeting here.)
