Emphasise stg OVER stg else?

Hello helpers,

Is it correct English to write the following:

"The current research tradition emphasises interaction between the East and West over bipolar conflict."

or do you need to say "rather than" instead of "over"?

Many thanks in advance!

I read the original to mean that their interactions took place over the subject of bipolar conflict. I didn't read it to mean it emphsized interaction instead of confict. If you mean the latter, then you definitely need to rephrase!
