Hello

Cold you please tell me what is the most formal way to emphasize a word in a letter. Is it by writing it in CAPITALS, italics, bloks or underlined?

Hi, It depends on the context, BUT if you want to really draw something out, you can use underline, bold, and caps, all together. You could also change the font size to something larger. But using different font sizes usually irritates people, so I don't recommend it.

  • I would be inclined to bold and underline and forego caps to emphasize a word in dramatic fashion.
  • In less dramatic fashion, I would just bold the text.
