Emerge oneself into???

In this sentence:

If you are looking for a city to emerge yourself into with great food, beautiful crafts and stunning architecture...

Is 'to emerge oneself into' an existing expression?
I think the verb 'emerge' is intransitive so it cannot take the object.
And it seems like 'immerse' would be okay instead of 'emerge'.
Am i right?
