embattled government

What is the embattled government?

Thanks!

Top answer

It could mean a government that is involved in or is preparing for a fight/war and is surrounded by enemy forces. Or it could simply mean a government that is experiencing lots of difficulties. Could you give more of the context?

Maybe it's a country with an army.

Thanks, Annvan! It should be a government with difficulties. It is about french government during the siege of Paris in 1870. At first I wasn't sure which government was in question, but found it on Wiki.

You can use it even about a government facing difficulties in the parliament.
