Embarkation vs boarding

There's a question like this in my textbook:

(An announcement is being made at a port) The ship will soon be ready for ___ (embarkation/boarding). Would passengers please ensure they have their tickets ready.

Which one should I choose? Can you please explain the difference between them in this context?
Thank you Emotion: smile

It is a poor question. Both words have the same meaning, so both are possible. In the US, they usually say 'ready for boarding'.
