I've written an email to a professor to apply for a Ph.D. program and I would be appreciated if you could read it carefully and let me know if there are errors in punctuation, the structure of sentences, the sequence of paragraphs or anything else. as well as that, if you have any suggestions to make the letter more effective and well-written I would be appreciated to know.
Dear Dr. .........,
This is ........... from Iran. I obtained my master’s degree in Psychology of Children and Adolescents from the Kharazmi University with a total GPA of 4.0/4.0 in 2017 and I did my bachelor’s degree in Music from the University of Tehran.
During my academic time, I have reviewed your research profile and some of your astonishing publications and found myself absolutely interested in your work and I believe we have much common research interests. so if accepted to the doctoral program, I would be so delighted and honored to work under your supervision in the Department of Psychology at McGill University.
Your works on the structure and function of auditory cortices and their difference between the hemispheres as well as your studies on pitch perception and auditory imagery among others are really appealing to me.
As it is mentioned in my CV, which is attached to the email, I am particularly interested in investigating the effects of different music elements on the emotional as well as functional and structural responses of the brain using EEG, MRI and other techniques and also cognitive and psychological measures. Although, I am interested to explore other related areas as well.
Along with my curriculum in psychology, during my master’s years, I went about studying papers and books published in the area of music cognition, learning Matlab programming and working with toolboxes running under Matlab, attending neuroscience and music cognition workshops and talks, all as a result of my passion about the field. My M.A. thesis was to study the effects of changing the rhythmic pattern of music excerpts on emotion and the functional connectivity network of the brain by using EEG.
I would appreciate your views regarding the possibility of continuing my education in your doctoral program.
I am attaching my CV for further information and If you require any additional details of my works and goals, do not hesitate to contact me via my email address.
I would appreciate your time and I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely yours,
..........
