Elvis Presley / "In the Ghetto" - without tapped t's

Did Elvis have a typical southern accent? Listening to "In the Ghetto" neither he or Lisa Presley have any tapped t's?

As far as I know, that would have nothing to do with being Southern or not. I think it's a coincidence, something he did on purpose in the song. He taps the T's in "little", for example: On a cold and gray Chicago morning, a poor little baby child has born in the ghetto.

  • (that's what I understand at least, LOL.
  • I would have no way to distinguish "child is born" from "child (h)as born" in that song)

No, well, probably not (re southern or not) - was merely looking for an explanation to why he sang it that way ... but looked it up and Ghetto is an Italian suburb name (from Venice) with a somewhat tragic history ... which you might know Koyeen .. so perhaps it's just because he conceived the word being foreign. Who knows.

Elivis did in fact have a heavy southern accent. He only pronounces his t's like this in the song for clarity.
