ellipsis or not??

Hellooo! May I ask the question concerning using ellipsis (in bracket) in the following sentence? Life is tough (when you are) on your own.* I am not sure whether it is OK to use *on your own at the end as the adverbial without the subordinate clause (when you are...) Thank you for any reply!!! :-) Petra
