ellipsis

Hello again! I would like to ask about the following sentence: This thing (which is) called love I am not sure whether it involves the ellipsis of the relative pronoun and to be? It is the same for example with: The book written by him/The book which is written by him. Thank you for any reply!! :-) Petra

Anonymous I am not sure whether it involves the ellipsis of the relative pronoun and to be? Yes. Reduced relative clauses are the result of omitting the relative pronoun and the helping verb (be) from a relative clause.
