ELLIPSIS

0Hi,02br
02br
00According to a wesite named "grammar.ccc.comnet.edu" in its THE ELLIPSIS section, I have noticed a paragraph that is written like this and I couldn't understand fully:02br
02br
00If words are left off at the 01u00end02u00 of a sentence, and that is all that is omitted, indicate the omission with ellipsis marks (preceded and followed by a space) and then indicate the end of the sentence with a period … . If one or more sentences are omitted, end the sentence before the ellipsis with a period and then insert your ellipsis marks with a space on both sides. … As in this example. A coded ellipsis (used in the construction of this page) will appear tighter (with less of a space between the dots) than the use of period-space-period-space-period.02br
02br
001. If an ellipsis is ending the sentence, do we need four dots?02br
02br
002. What do I have to do for omitting one or more sentences? Your examples?02br
02br
003. What follows an ellipsis must be a small lettered word? Can it be a word in capital letters?02br
02br
00eg, I went to Lotte Mart to buy some clothes for the coming summer ... 01u00There02u00 were my friends there at the Mart (mart OK??). 0-

0Hi,02br
02br
00My first reaction is to wonder why you want to write using all these kinds of ellipsis.02br
02br
00Are you trying to write dialogue of some kind? Or perhaps trying to write some kind of reported speech? Or trying to write quotations?02br
02br
00For example, why do you want to write 02br

If for effect, surely?

In addition, it adds a sense of time passing into the sentence, as if there's a longer gap between the two conjoined sentences.

Hi,

There's truth in that, but it seems to me more characteristic of a literary style of writing. The sentences we are actually looking at seem a bit mundane rather than literary.

Why don't you just answer his question? I was looking for an answer to the same question right now!
