This might be a pun on "to help yourself", in the context of a play that featured gnomes, dwarves, etc.; or it might mean to transform yourself into an elf.

In what context did you find it, out of interest?

Well, there seems to be a website called "Elf yourself", which enables the visitor to transform himself (pictorially) into an elf.

It may relate to that!

Hmmm. If I heard someone saying anything that sounded like '. . . elf yourself', my first reaction would be that it was a mishearing of the phrase which sounds like '. . . eff (ie f***) yourself', meaning the quite rude 'Perform a sexual act on yourself'.
