Elder

Sir,

My father is elder than my mother.

My father is elder to my mother.

Which one is correct?

Regards.

Neither, really. 'Elder' is used as a premodifier ('he is my elder brother'), and even as that, less and less so; it is in the process of being superseded by 'older'. '
