elastic v. flexible v. flexile v. whippy

I try to understand word flexible. It both mean whippy and elastic but these meanings are all different. 1. Flexible as whippy:Bending and snapping back readily without breaking 2. Flexible as elastic: Able to adjust readily to different conditions 3. Flexible as flexile: Able to flex; able to bend easily I try to understand the difference between these. What is the main difference between 1. 2. and 3. and which one is fit for this sentence? "The front fins of most fish are flexible and can be moved in many different directions." "Whippy"? This is the first time I've seen the word. "Flexile" is listed in the Oxford Dictionary as archaic.

Thank you.
