Either...or and Whether...or?

Do you know the differences between two correlative conjunctions: "either ...or" and "whether...or"?
Here are two examples:
1. Bring either a Jello salad or a potato scallop.

2. Corinne is trying to decide whether to go to medical school or to go to law school.

Do they have the same meaning?

They are similar in your two sentences in that they both refer to two alternatives, however they are not interchangeable. You cannot use whether in sentence 1. Whether works well with the state of uncertainty in sentence 2.
