Either way

The way Hayden was batting, he took the game away from us. 185 was a good score but the bowlers failed to win it for us. It would have gone either way if we had bowled well in the first 6 overs.

Could you please tell me what "either way" means here?

I guess it means "both teams would have chance" though.
