It is closer to the meaning of conceited. In fact, one often hears, "He is an egotistical snob," meaning that the person in question is both egotistical (vain, prone to thinking only about himself, not caring about others, etc.) AND a snob, which means, in at least U.S. slang "stuck up"....looks down on others; thinks he's superior to others in some way.
