I am slightly baffled by the following two sets of words. Can you de-baffle (?) please?
1. effort and efforts (his effort and his efforts)

I am baffled by the use of the 'subject" words.
Ex.
That is my effort.
They are my efforts.
That is my thought.
They are my thoughts.
(How much effort or thought can a first order person can expend?)

I'm sorry, but I'm really not sure where your confusion lies. All that I can tell you is that "effort" and "thought" are singular, whereas "efforts" and "thoughts" are plural. A person can make more than one effort and have more than one thought.
