Effort

Hi,

"I put my best efforts into studying."

"I gave studying my best effort."

I came across these sentences quite randomly and I wanted to ask you if they are both correct and natural. I heard the first sentence during an interview and it was used by a native speaker. However, I later found out that some people take issue with it.

I know that there are other ways of saying it, but I'm interested in these particular examples.

Thank you.

The phrase "best effort(s)" is usually used in more serious or diffcult contexts, for example:

"I did very badly in high school and consequently had trouble when I entered junior college. But I put my best effort into my studies and managed a 2.0 average for the first semester, a monumental achievement for me."
