Effects of overpopulation

Several problems are resulting from the rising number of people in big cities. First of all, the population boom is responsible for the degradation of people's quality of life. As the demand for water, food, and housing increases with population growth and exceeds the cities' supplying capacity, the governments are facing difficulties ensuring the quality of services, which has significant repercussions for public health, security measures, and economic growth. Secondly, overcrowding is believed to aggravate the elevated crime rate. The population keeps growing despite the limited number of jobs, which results in increased competitiveness, making numerous people become unemployed and turn to a life of crime such as theft, robbery, and kidnapping as means of making ends meet. Last but not least, the greenhouse effect might be the third consequence of the rapidly growing human population. Due to the exponential rise in the number of vehicles and industries, there is overuse of coal, oil, and natural gas, which imposes harmful effects on our environment and leads to an increase in heat-trapping gases, acid rain, air pollution, and global warming. In conclusion, population explosion is one of the gravest problems adversely affecting big cities on both human life and the environment.
