Effect of structually different adverbial clauses/phrases in comprehension questions?

Hi. Are they both correct? If they are, what is the difference?

(possibly comprehension questions for a text or a brief episode on TV)

After eating the lunch, what did he do?

After he had eaten the lunch, what did he do?

How about these?

After eating the breakfast, what did he do about the appointment he hadn't been able to keep?

After he had eaten the lunch, what did he do about the appointment he hadn't been able to keep?
