Overpopulation of urban areas leads to numerous problems. The most obvious effect to mention is traffic jams which result from by people’s high demand of commuting. Traffic congestion not only restricts human’s travelling but also has an adverse impact on environmental degradation. For instance, fumes emitted from vehicles along with the overuse of coal, oil and natural gas may contribute to air pollution, global warming and changing climate patterns. Secondly, overpopulation gives rise to unemployment as there are fewer jobs to support a large number of people. Finding jobs would be more competitive because people may have to compete with each other for a vacancy and most successful companies tend to recruit talented candidates rather than the rest. This in turn could generate rising crime and social revolt occurring prevalently in big cities. Last but not least, starvation is another alarming issue. It is because there are not enough available resources with a view to meeting a myriad of people’s demands. Therefore, there are more and more destitute residents sufferring from food shortages and lack of access to clean water. In conclusion, crowded people living in metropolitan cities causes many tremendous consequences.
