The aphorism is a little murky, but I suppose the writer means that we don't need to go to a school in order to become educated.

Maybe schooling refers to school only, education includes also home teaching?

I don't think so. It means educating yourself. Of course, if you supplied even a little context, it would be helpful.

Education is usually considered to be the process by which a person becomes knowledgeable or enlightened in a particular area. Schooling is usually considered to be "compulsory schooling" as in, K-12. Schooling is not mandatory for education. In fact, it oftentimes is detrimental. Look at Benjamin Franklin, Andrew Carnegie, George Washington, Abe Lincoln...Thomas Edison...they were ALL drop-outs.
