Education System in UK and USA

Could you tell me how do they call the classes or stage where children are 3, 4 or 5 years old in the UK and in the USA? I mean, before compulsory Education. Has the name, by chance, anything to do with "Infant"?

Thank you in advance.

It's called preschool in the US. Also, kindergarten (5-6 year olds) is optional in some places.

Thank you, CSnyder. Nothing about Infant Education or something the like, right?

Preschool or nursery school, but not "infant" school, no.
