Topic: Some people think that parents should teach children how to be good members of society. Others, however, believe that school is the place to learn this. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Essay:

People have different views with regard to the question of where children should learn to be a good citizen. In my opinion, both parents and schools play important role in teaching them.

On the one hand, schools are likely to be the favorable environment in which children can cultivate their virtues. Each school has their own rules. For example, well-behaved students will be awarded and rule-breaking students will be punished properly; therefore, children become accustomed to abiding by the principles now and by the law in the future. Besides, in schools, children would be taught by qualified teachers who are considered to be stricter than their parents. Moreover, classes are kind of small community, and children can realize their impact on the collective success; as a result, they become more responsible.

On the other hand, children who lack of parental education couldn’t be a good person in the future. In the first 3 years of life, children spend most of time with their parents; it means parents will have deep influence on their characters. In this way, parents need to understand that what they teach their children will be foundation of their behavior afterward. And even when they go to schools, teachers couldn’t control students as well as their parents do. Therefore, parents and teachers must cooperate together to use effective disciplinary techniques for their children’s own good.

In conclusion, it seems to me that children will be a useful person to the society only if they receive good education from both parents and schools.

Thanks a lot!!!
