Information about the proportion of monthly household income five European countries spend on different categories is shown in the table. As can be seen, there were noticeable contrasts in terms of nation and item.

As an overall trend, the greatest percentage of national household income goes to food and drink. In detail, Turkey claimed the highest proportion, namely 32.14%, followed by Spain with 31%. We can see that UK, France, and Germany had the similar level, ranging between 27% and 22%. In marked contrast, clothing revealed an opposite pattern, with the greatest percentage of just 15% recorded in Germany. The other countries ranked from 12% to 7%.

Turning to housing, UK ranked first in term of item, at 37%, followed by Germany and France, with 33% and 31% each. Turkey and Spain shared the similar rate, i.e between 20% and 18% respectively. It could be noticed that entertainment got a small proportion of household expenditure, with the highest percentage goes to Germany (19%), came after other countries, ranging between 15% and 10%.

By nation, Germany generally had the highest percentage of household income for the four categories under survey. Remarkably, Spain spends most on food and drink, whereas the opposite was true of clothing.
