THE METHODOLOGIES AND METHODS TO BE USED IN THE RESEARCH
The methodology, which is going to be used, is the six pillars of futures studies, which provides a theory of futures thinking that is linked to methods and tools, and developed through praxis. The pillars (MATDCT) are: mapping, anticipation, timing, deepening, creating alternatives and transforming.
As the world becomes increasingly heterogeneous, as events from far away places dramatically impact how, where, when, why and with whom we live and work, futures studies can help us recover our agency. By mapping the past, present and future, by anticipating future issues and their consequences, by being sensitive to the grand patterns of change, by deepening our analysis to include worldviews and myths and metaphors, by creating alternative futures, and by choosing a preferred and back casting ways to realize the preferred, we can create the world we wish to live in (Inayatullah, 2008)
As a theory it seeks to integrate empiricist, interpretive, critical, and action learning modes of knowing at inner and outer levels. As a method, it creates alternative futures. It is also likely to be useful in developing more effective deeper, inclusive, longer term policy.
This methodology generates conversations that dig down into the worldviews, mental models and cultural structures that inform how we perceive both issues and possible future outcomes.
