Economies

Hi, the dictionary shows that "economies" are countries so advanced (developed) countries is it a mistake?

"But free markets and global free trade are not new, and this use of the word ignores developments in the advanced economies."

Top answer

"economies" refers to countries in terms of their economic systems. "advanced economies" are countries having an efficient economic system. "developments" here means "new events/circumstances that change the current situation".
