Could you tell me how this subject is called? I have two variants but I am sure that these are official terms. Do you have a major which would be called one of the following?

As for the difference, the "fundamentals" sounds like an introductory course where I learn basic things and later, more complex courses will build on that foundation. A finance/economics major would have this as one of his first courses.

The "essentials" sounds like an overview course that's going to tell me the basic things I need to know about the subject. It will give me the minimum
